Fitzgerald Receives $2.5 Million ARPA Water and Sewer Infrastructure Grant to Expand Land Application System and Enhance Industrial Corridor

Through collaborative work between Fitzgerald Utilities, the Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County Development Authority, and the Southern Georgia Regional Commission, the community will receive $2.5Million to expand its ability to handle process water from its manufacturers.  The LAS system which is 30+ years old pipes process water to holding ponds where it is aerated and applied to hayfields.  With rapid growth coming from its users, the system was nearing maximum capacity.

The total investment in the system is estimated at $5Million.  In addition to expanding the LAS, the community will extend sanitary sewer to a 50-acre tract of land owned by the Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County Development Authority.
